House NO. 4 is an artist residency located in a vineyard in the Atacama Desert in Chile. We studied different ways to create an observatory and a viewing platform that would take advantage of the views seen at the remote location of the desert. The project can be described as a hill with a small tower at the center that serves as a meeting place. There are four rooms, one at each corner of the building that are connected by a ramp that circles around the hill. Each individual room is placed in between lush gardens that flow seamlessly with the interior space. The hill serves as a gathering space, a connection between the four artists, and a natural observatory to take in the views of the Atacama desert.
